The Solar Fiesta!
The Solar Fiesta is a gathering put on by the New Mexico Solar Energy Association for green-minded people and companies. The fiesta this year is August 27th and 28th, from 10am - 5pm. It will be held at Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Fiesta includes booths and displays from dozens of companies, and is open to the public. New Mexico Earth presents a hands-on demonstration of adobe making and building, with lots of help from volunteers! Visit www.NMSEA.org for information on the next Solar Fiesta.
Hands-on Adobe and Compressed Earth Block Class This class focuses on working and building with adobe and compressed earth block. It is being held by the Southwest SolarAdobe School. The class is a great way to become familiar with the tools and methods used for building, and includes hands-on activities of making blocks and building walls. Adobe Design Class UNM's Continuing Education program offers classes on the basics of Adobe design. The class, taught by contractor Danny Martinez, covers permits, floors, wall building, solar, and other topics from designing an adobe house to putting on the finished details. Nubian Vault Workshop Stevan de la Rosa and Simone Swan work with participants on building a Nubian vault, from the engineering to the laying of bricks. A beautiful style of woodless roof, the Nubian vault is a geat way to start learning earth architecture. The class is held at the Adobe Alliance in Presidio, Texas.
